Family,
Each week passes by and as I recollect my thoughts from the week, I simply can't find out where the time went! We're busy with a variety of different things, which is of course a good thing. I am grateful for the productivity of a mission, it's so nice to end each day with a sense of accomplishment. Especially as it is now Summer, there are many different ways I could be spending my time, but I am grateful it's in Rancho Cucamonga.Tuesday, June 30, 2015
Have a great and safe 4th of July!

6/22/15
Family,
I apologize that last week our p-day was so brief, we only got to e-mail for about 10 minutes! The new missionaries arrived on Monday and we're basically right at hand for President Hobbs on the day of transfers and the day following. We picked up the new missionaries at the Ontario airport and I made a little mistake and it bothered me so bad. I share this because I realized that the good thing about mistakes is that we never forget them. That's also a bad thing at the same time, but that was my attempt to stay positive about the whole thing. Monday, June 22, 2015
6/15/15
GREAT NEWS! This transfer, President Hobbs is having us cover a 2nd ward, and guess which one it is? the Cucamonga TONGAN WARD! haha! I can't believe it to be honest. I remember thinking it'd be great to serve in another Tongan ward, but I certainly didn't think that that wish would come true so quickly. A lot of the missionaries know that I am very excited about it (: I am a tiny bit nervous though at the same time, just because we're covering Highland ward on top of assistant stuff and the Tongan ward, and the Tongans don't like to share missionaries with other wards and Elder Va'enuku just got white washed out of that ward, but I am regardless so excited about the whole thing! I am excited to share my discoveries of their culture and what new words and phrases I pick up on and of course indulge in some Polynesian food.
Things are great, we have had the craziest day and this is all I have time for. I love you all, talk to you next week!

An Eventful Week
It was a pretty good week. We joined the Rancho zone for a game of kickball on Monday and we also played a game of Rugby and I scored 2 try's, whoo! It's such an exhausting and challenging sport, but I really enjoy it! Apparently BYU has a really good womens team, so that's cool! And then for my birthday lunch, we went to Red Robin for my first time. It was good, nothing too crazy though. And then we were in the office for the duration of that evening.
On Tuesday we had a meeting with President Hobbs and then he was kind enough to take us to a Thai restaurant for dinner and the Hobbs are such fantastic people! I love them so much! I enjoy when I get to know them on a personal level. Get this: The Hobbs LOVE Maddox and they actually want to move to Brigham City one day. How neat would that be? We are so blessed to have them around. President Hobbs is just so admirable. He's a very humble and simple man who has a passion for obedience. He is a wonderful mission president. My mission continues to be unlike anything else I've experienced in my life where I realize there's no satisfactory substitute that will develop you as a disciple of Christ than a mission. Maybe one day I'll get it down that we need to be swallowed up in the will of our Father. I know the Lord's work is true, I know His church is on the earth again, and I know that Christ, our Brother and our Savior, made an infinite sacrifice for people as numerous as the stars on earth. We're all striving for something impossible as mortals, but because of Him, we have an avenue back to our Heavenly Father because of an incomprehensible love He has for each of His children, and what a blessing it us to fall under that triumphant category.
Proudly,
Elder Shawn Lyle Bennion

It's P Day Again
Family,
This week flew by, it's crazy to think it's p day again, let alone June! By now my birthday has passed and I had a very good birthday. I was kind of being a punk about it at first, but once we started working, things got really good. Thank you for those who wished me a happy birthday.Wednesday, May 27, 2015
I love you all!
Family,
It sure would be nice if I had a lot to report on, but this week involved a lot of driving and working with other elders in different areas of our mission. I've explored a lot of our mission at this point and it is so fascinating to discover new parts of the mission you haven't served in. However, at the same time, this week we got to do a little more proselyting than normal, which was good.
Here's some things that happened throughout the week that are worth sharing:
Miracles are not going to come your way unless you have the eyes to see them. On Wednesday, I stayed in Rancho for an exchange, and I was really nervous because I don't know our area all that well, but our day turned out super good. I had such a large desire to find new people to teach because it's something our whole mission is struggling with and although we weren't able to have any lessons that day, we met a lot of great people and had a lot of really good conversations. Our area isn't flourishing with new investigators necessarily, but there are sure a lot of seeds being planted! Throughout the day, I was able to see a lot of mini miracles that may be irrelevant to others, but to me they put me at ease to see the Lord supports us and directs us in His work and in our everyday lives. And for dinner, we had some really awesome enchilada's, so that was exciting.
On Thursday, a missionary committed me to read a conference talk; The Music of the Gospel, which was shared in April. It was a very good talk and music is something I obviously love, so I was very drawn to what the talk was going to cover. It is so true that we can live the gospel, but if we're not feeling the Spirit, it is not something we are going to stick with for very long. The music of the gospel is what is going to change out behavior and help us become more skilled in the dance steps that we often mundanely experience. But with the Spirit, the gospel will never seem dull!
On Friday, we did our first shift of the Cyber Seniors at the Senior Center and old people are a hit or miss. The program is so new, so no one showed up, so we promoted the program with flyers and talked to the men and women in the center and there were some nice people and some ornery people as well. One lady we met said "Leave, I've had enough of ya!" it was pretty much just her personality, but after an hour of sharing the idea, we found a man who needed help understanding the internet, and I'm not sure if you've ever tried teaching seniors how to use it, but you have to start completely at the basics! This man didn't know what a computer mouse was, but throughout our 45 minutes, he really picked up on using a computer. It was a neat and very comical experience at the same time. Then later that evening, we had dinner at a family's house and had chicken alfredo, it was awesome!
On Saturday, I worked in the Chino zone and that was pretty good, there are A LOT of Asians there, my goodness. Then the next day was Sunday and we had church and dinner and did some office stuff for the departing missionaries this transfer. That basically summarizes our week. This one will be good and busy. Today we got invited to a memorial day barbeque, Wednesday we have a big meeting to follow up with the new missionaries that came in a month ago, Thursday we have an exchange with some zone leaders, and then Sunday is my birthday! 21... weird. We don't have anyone signed up for dinner that day and I am so tempted to ask the Tongan elders if we can join them for dinner that day ha! I just want some Tongan food. But yeah, things in my life are great.
Since Koriann requested, a day in my life goes like this: (first off every week is different) We get a normal Preparation day (except the first Monday of the transfer) and we have dinner, then we normally do office stuff the rest of that evening. Tuesday we attend a regular district meeting somewhere in the mission and meet with President Hobbs to discuss stuff in the mission. Then we get to do our own proselyting and we do splits with our ward Tuesday evenings. This Wednesday we have a meeting with the new missionaries that have only been out for a month and we discuss how things are, how they like their trainers, etc. On other weeks, we may be scheduling interviews with President Hobbs for other missionaries, putting together the information for departing missionaries, i don't know how to explain what I do, to be honest. Every day varies. But I enjoy being able to serve in any capability or position, that's what matters.
So yeah, I love you all! Have fun at Connor's graduation, wish him luck on his speech! And of course, have a great summer!

Just Serve
Family,
I will make this quick and easy, since there really is not all that much to report on.
Since last Sunday, I am doing pretty good. It was good to hear from you all, it's just weird to see how much things change. This week I went on 2 exchanges with the Zone Leaders and I was in Apple Valley on Wednesday and had a good day there. Thursday we did office stuff and proselyting and Friday we set up a really awesome weekly service project at the Senior Center, which is going to be so good for the missionaries here. The church really wants missionaries and members out in the community more because when your LDS, our whole pool of friends is LDS, we need to fix that! I know I was pretty much the same way, but how can we expect the Lord's work to hasten if we're just doing what is comfortable? I hope you've heard of it, but the church put out a great website called Just Serve, it's a very good opportunity to do as it states. We are very excited.
On Saturday, I was in Rancho with Elder Aso and he's half Samoan and half Tongan and we had a great day! He lives in West Jordan and acts just like I was hoping for! I was pretty much reminiscing a lot of the day and telling him stories about Victorville, but we always see miracles if we have the eyes to see them. Our Sabbath day was good as well, I was praying really hard to find a new investigator because we haven't in 2 weeks! No luck in that aspect, but you never know where you make a difference. I've been inspired by the scripture in D&C somewhere it tells us not to be weary in well-doing, and ain't that the truth! That's what the mission is all about.
It's P-day again and I really want to get as much stuff done so we can nap sooner ha, I love you all, have a good week!
